Programme

The game at Croft Park to celebrate Blyth Spartan's Centenary was twice postponed from first August and then November in the previous season. Craig Farrell gave United the lead in the thirty-fifth minute when he headed home a Gareth Evans cross. It was a lead that was not unexpected as Farrell had been just over after Simon Johnson had squared a ball back from the sideline after the same player had also provided the passes for both Jamie McMaster and Tony Lennon to have shots blocked by defenders and Alan Cawley was also narrowly wide with a curling shot from the left of the penalty area after being set up by Jamie McMaster. Just on half-time Paul Robinson preserved the United's lead when he was qickly out to deny Skedd after he was through on goal. Three minutes into the second half Simon Johnson increased the lead whena took a fine diagonal pass from Jamie McMaster to score from the right of the penalty area. David Sherman came on for Simon Johnson at Inside Left in the sixty-eighth minute and quarter of an hour later Kevin Evans replaced Damian Lynch at Left Half. Danny Milosevic, Jason Lannis, Shane Cansdell-Sherriff, Martin Cramer and Alan Martin remained unused on the Leeds bench.
